Dr. Marcia Ely has always been drawn to animal care. After High School, she served in the Air Force as a Veterinary Technician and simultaneously began her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology at Auburn University. She went on to complete her bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida. She then went on to the College of Veterinary Medicine at UoF to become a proud graduate of the class of 1988.
Dr. Marcia Ely proceeded to work at a small animal practice in St. Augustine for three years, and then moved with her family to Titusville, Florida in 1991. She worked diligently to enhance and improve patient outcomes for years and began to realize the possibility of her ultimately becoming a practice owner. In 2003, these dreams were realized as Dr. Ely purchased Dunn Animal Hospital, which she renamed Sunrise Animal Hospital (to honor the beautiful location) and began to implement her own approach to delivering outstanding, compassionate veterinary care.
Dr. Ely loves calling Titusville, Florida her home and proudly raised two children in the town. Now that they’ve left the nest, she spends time with her three furry children. Her cats, Dave and Momma, keep her continuously entertained. While her dog, Sheldon, a Great Pyrenees, stands guard at her farm. She also enjoys watching the antics of her chickens who keep her in constant supply of eggs. In her spare time, she is passionate about fly fishing, she loves RVing, and has been seen kayaking, boating and riding her bike.
Dr. Marcia Ely had served the local community by participating in the Titusville Sunrise Rotary Club, which she joined in 2003. She participated actively in Rotary for many years, where she served as president, participated in many service projects and could be seen every year at the chili Cook Off enjoying serving her “Dog Breath Chili”.
She is also a member of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Information Network and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Dr. Ely is proud to run a number of green initiatives at Sunrise Animal Hospital, which includes eliminating paper and plastic waste, recycling wherever possible and beautifying the local area.
